Know what works before you commit resources
Planning environmental projects without the right data is like planting in the dark. ArborCarbon’s strategy and planning services give you the clarity to act early, allocate budgets wisely and deliver long-term outcomes with confidence.
Most strategies set unrealistic, unachievable targets
The vast majority of urban forest and greening strategies are high level, and set unrealistic canopy or greening targets (i.e. 30%) based on a nice-to-have rather than real data. ArborCarbon has become known as the go to company in Australia who develops data driven, scientically robust strategies, with aspirational but achievable targets.
Strategy without data often becomes damage control. We help you break that cycle.
The truth about strategy and planning
Real strategy and implementation of actions starts with evidence. We combine scientific field expertise with advanced remote sensing and AI-driven analysis to deliver strategies and plans that are grounded in reality, not guesswork.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Every strategy and plan is shaped by high-resolution data and robust data, interpreted by experienced scientists, and tailored to your environment, goals and obligations.
Our work turns complexity into clarity. You get a strategy you can use, trust, and defend.

City of Canning – Urban Forest Strategy
The challenge
The City of Canning (WA) has been assessed as having one of the lowest levels of tree canopy of Perth Metropolitan Councils. Their community told them they wanted more trees and greater canopy cover. The council, like many throughout Perth, is facing rapid sub-division of private property due to the state governments R-Codes, and the lack of protection for trees on private land has a large impact on the council’s canopy. Many LGA’s throughout Perth are aiming to achieve a 30% canopy cover figure based on a lack of data and future modelling.
The solution
ArborCarbon undertook detailed geospatial analysis of the City’s data, utilising a range of land-use categories, and investigating the future impacts of sub-division and where planting opportunities could be utilised on public land to mitigate losses on private land. We determined the City’s canopy cover was one of the lowest in Perth, at just 7.6%, and that they needed to plant more than 60,000 trees over the next 20 years to increase canopy cover by 22.3%, achieving a total canopy cover of 9.3%.
The impact
Our urban forest strategy provided real figures on existing and potential canopy cover. These figures were humbling, but they enabled council officers to go to elected members to seek budget for the implementation of the action plan. This was based on the need to improve the liveability of the City of Canning, and the well-being of residents. It was endorsed by Council, and ArborCarbon have been undertaking repeat measures to monitor progress against their action plan.
